Greetings Missionaries:

Who would have thought a year ago that we would have experienced so many unprecedented events? This time last year we were making sure everyone had the royal blue tunic, the SEDWMS signature scarf and the many styles of royal blue dresses. While we thank God for those who will be able to participate in a different WMS Annual Convention, we pause to remember the many missionary sisters and brothers who did not make it to July 2020. May we continue to be in prayer for the families of all who have experienced loss.

With much uncertainty in the midst of a pandemic, as well as unrest in our world, we find ourselves in a new place, a place where we cannot necessarily use the script nor the program template from previous years! Thus, our annual conventions will have a different look. The dates are as follow:

  • Virginia Conference Branch Monday, July 20, 2020

  • Baltimore Conference Branch Thursday, July 23, 2020

  • Washington Conference Branch Monday, July 27, 2020

  • North Carolina Conference Branch Thursday, July 30, 2020

  • Western North Carolina Conference Branch Monday, August 3, 2020

While the intent of this communication it to provide as much information as possible, we beg your continued patience as we move through this period. Any missing details will be provided as soon as possible.

The half-day virtual meeting will be streamlined to include essential items. The following will be postponed until the 2021 WMS Annual Convention: election of officers, the pinning and cappingceremony and the recognition of missionaries who have served tirelessly for at least 25 years, yet they do not meet all of the criteria for WMS Life Membership.Just as the Second Episcopal District has used a combination of ZOOM for registered persons and Facebook Live and Youtube for others throughout the pandemic, we will use the same platform. As we are meeting, Bishop Davis will be conducting the business of the Annual Conference and we will join them to have our Worship Experience.

Conference Officers: Several conference officers have served the 8-year term, and where possible will remain in place until the 2021 election. Where there are vacant offices, the Conference Branch President has been empowered to appoint interim persons to serve until the 2021 Annual Convention.

Attire: Missionary White with the SEDWMS scarf (please contact the Conference Branch President if a scarf is needed). Note: Areas should save any flowers, etc. for the 2021 Annual Convention. Annual Convention Start Time will be 9:00 a.m. (Meet & Greet) and the business session will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.

Registration/Offerings/Refunds: By the time we found ourselves in this pandemic, most conferences had completed the registration process. Please keep in mind that there are Annual Convention expenses and there are operational Conference Branch expenses that are normally offset by the various offerings. Each Conference Branch will determine whether or not offerings will be lifted, as well as what the registration refund policy will be.

ANNUAL CONVENTION 2020 REGISTRATION: Persons who registered for the 2020 Annual Convention must:

Sign up for a free Zoom Account no later than July 8, 2020. (If you already have an account in the name that you used to register for the 2020 Annual Convention, you do not need to register for a new account. (Note: The name on the account must match the name the Recording Secretary has from your AC2020 registration to verify your attendance.)

You must register for the Zoom Account using ONE of the following that you will used to attend the 2020 Annual Convention:

  • Email Address or

  • Phone #

  • You may only attend using ONE device (i.e. mobile phone, computer, tablet or landline)

  • Register for Annual Convention 2020 via the Zoom platform. (Information will be provided by the Conference Branch President.)

ZOOM TRAINING: Please take advantage of the following ZOOM TRAINING:

Please see below responses to non-Annual Convention-related questions that have been posed. Local Society Assessments: While the General Church has reduced Episcopal District budgets by 25%, as well as budgets for components (including the Connectional WMS), etc., the local church assessments remain the same (i.e., the income for the Connectional WMS was reduced, thus the Episcopal District budgets remain the same). Any questions should be directed to the Conference Branch President.

Dorcas: The Dorcas Extravaganza is the major fundraiser for the SEDWMS. While there is much uncertainty as to how we will operate in months to come, Dorcas has not been cancelled. Any adjustments will be provided through the Conference Branch Presidents. Dollars for Missions: This is still in place and monies are due to the SEDWMS no later than October 31,

Thank you for your patience during this season and keep in mind that this new normal is new to all of us!

Please forward any questions to the Conference Branch President.
