May the Lord Bless you Real Good! The day of celebration is almost here, Christmas. As we continue in these last days of Advent, take a moment to reflect on the year 2019. God’s immeasurable kindness, love, grace and mercy has surrounded each of us and our families. There were and still are challenges that followed us during this year, but we made it to today. Be Grateful.
What a tremendous year this has been in the life of the Washington Conference Branch Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Through your work and commitment, you have been Transforming Lives, Building Communities and Impacting the World.
You have prayed for the sick among us, cared for and encouraged healing for bereaved families.
No organization can top your service when it comes to giving. You have provided over 3,500 Pampers, baby wipes, sanitizer kits to the following groups -- just in the last six months: The Healthy Baby Project, the Bread for the City Outreach Diaper Project and the Stork Nest. These outreach service organizations target young African American women many who are single parents or women who have several children who need support although they work outside the home. You Did This.
You have given over 315 beautiful Handbags all filled with toiletries, some Handbags included scarves, jewelry and gift cards to support the Handbags Across America Project. You Did This.
You have taken hats, gloves, socks coats and food to the streets across the DMV. This year, 200 Thanksgiving Boxes were provided from the Conference, but some local Societies gave 500 to 1,000 Thanksgiving baskets. You did this.
You took the time during your Missionary meetings and created No-Sew Blankets for gifts to Seniors in Nursing Homes and Seniors in your local Churches and the Homeless population on the streets. You Did This.
You prepared over 2,024 Mealtime Kits that were donated to Central Union Mission. You helped to lay Christmas Wreathes at Arlington Cemetery and other Veterans Cemeteries across the Maryland DC Area. You Did This.
You donated funds to the Lupus Foundation, and we have learned that several Missionaries currently struggled with this debilitating disease. You made donations to Dorcas. You Did This.
You sacrificed your time and treasure and were a proud part of the delegation to the 19th Quadrennial Convention wher e we returned with three elected WMS Connectional Officers: Margaret Maske, Director Promotional Missionary Education; Chandelle Ivy, Connectional WMS Treasurer; and Wanda Sims, Connectional Parliamentarian. Conference YPD Director, Krisie Williams led the YPDers for their part of the Quadrennial Convention and Jordan DeVeaux was elected as the Connectional YPD Second Vice President. You Did This.
You hosted Annual Missionary Days in local Churches and sponsored Angel Tree. You sponsored Pathway to Healing Writing Parties. You supported training sessions and attended Ecumenical events-- Bread for the World, Lobby Day, the PAN African Women’s and Church Women United meetings. You Did This.
In doing all these things, you still found time to attend Worship Services, attend Bible Study and Sunday School. You are Amazing! And finally: We are all called to serve others.
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
