Sis. Pamela Johnson Sembly became a member of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church in Randallstown, MD in October 1984 when her husband became its pastor. She is very active in the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on all levels, which began as a YPD Director at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church in Annapolis, MD under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Edgar L. James. Sis. Pam currently serves as the Area Chairperson of the Matilda Monroe Area. She has served as the recording secretary and treasurer of the Matilda Monroe Area for more than eight years for each office she has held. She was the Editor of the “Bridge,” the Second Episcopal District WMS Newsletter and elected a Delegate to the 15th and 16th Quadrennial Conventions. Sis. Pam has also served as president, treasurer and corresponding secretary of the Washington Conference Ministers’ Spouses, Widows and Widowers Organization and currently serves as its 2nd Vice President.
Under her leadership as local president of the Lillian M. Dorsey Senior Missionary Society, several on-going outreach programs have been established, which include the Good Samaritan Food Ministry, the Senior Outreach Ministry and support to several area schools and transitional housing facilities. Back-to-School supplies, Christmas Wish List project (which provides gifts to more than 20 families that averages about 125+ people each year.) The local society has received more than $100,000 in grant funding for food and homeless prevention during her administration.
Professionally she has been an executive secretary and legal administrative assistant for more than 35 years. Shortly after retirement in 2006 she became the Program Director for the Homeless Prevention Program of the We Are Family Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
In spite of her very busy schedule, she mostly enjoys being the wife of The Reverend Charles T. Sembly, Pastor of Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Randallstown, MD and the mother of three loving adult children and eight beautiful grandchildren. She is a very talented event planner and designs personalized stationery. She enjoys traveling and, along with her husband, has traveled abroad to several countries including South Africa, France, Italy, Spain, China, Singapore and Turkey. Sis. Pam also enjoys reading, scrap booking and writing. She is blessed with a beautiful voice and enjoys singing. Her favorite hymn is, “I Must Tell Jesus” and her favorite scripture is, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9
