Honoring Our Seniors

The Greater Mt. Nebo AME Bertha Bell Women’s Missionary Society (BBWMS) “Celebrating Services” has become a yearly event held during our annual Senior Legacy Luncheon honoring those on whose shoulders we stand. Last year’s event was held November 3, 2018, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Annapolis, Maryland with over 150 in attendance at this great celebration. We were truly blessed to have Ms. Triscina Grey to be the moderator for this event. Ms. Grey is the area’s longest running mid-day radio personality and a full time radio host on WHUR 96.3 FM. She is also the daughter of one of our dedicated Missionaries, Ms. Loretta Grey.

The Senior Legacy Luncheon is important to our local society because we have the opportunity to provide nurturing, love and thanks to our seniors. The luncheon gives them a special day to fellowship with others while the Missionary Society provides them with love and care, lunch, entertainment and special gifts. The seniors always enjoy the day and they look forward to the luncheon every year. In 2017, the Bertha Bell WMS partnered with Greater Mt. Nebo AME to celebrate the 140th church anniversary in conjunction with our Senior Legacy Luncheon. What a marvelous time!

The event starts at 11:00AM with lunch and entertainment. In 2017 the entertainment was presented by the Matthews Family, with Mr. Jerry Matthews as the lead. In 2018 the entertainment was provided by Zoney Sound, a group of three talented young men, led by Mr. Raymond Robinson. Both were outstanding groups.

The dress for the occasion is dressy casual. Our hostesses are dressed in our traditional blue and white. The luncheon is very festive with nicely decorated tables covered with white tablecloths and blue and white floral centerpiece arrangements. The occasion is presented by our President, Sister Evelyn Wallace. We have prayer, scripture and the recognition of honorees and special invited guests of the BBWMS.

The event has grown and we moved the event from the church site to a hotel site. When there is growth, then one knows that the function is wanted and enjoyed. We have had fantastic vendor participants. We usually have 10-12 vendors participating, including the A.M.E. Church Bookstore, Greater Mt. Nebo bookstore, jewelry and other custom creations. The BBWMS Historian, Ingrid Gist, provided an information history table, photos of our local missionary society and information about our A.M.E Missionary Society founder, Sarah Allen.

We look forward to another year of celebration for our Seniors.
