WCBWMS: Bringing Light and Power to Children and Families in Rwanda

Your response to the Solar Back-Pack Project was so impactful. The Reverend Jonathan L. Weaver, Pastor, Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church, announced during the Summer Summit that the Washington Conference WMS donated over 100 Solar Packs that were delivered during his Medical Missions trip to Rwanda which took place July 24 - August 1, 2018. Made from uncycled plastic shopping bags, the schoolbag has a solar lantern that allow children to study after dark. 11.4 million African students walk to school daily. Many of them lack electricity in their homes, meaning that they rely on unsafe kerosene lamps to study after sunset. Kerosene lanterns & alternative means of lighting kill at least 3 million people each year globally – mostly children & women. Made from 100% plastic shopping bags, solar backpack schoolbags offer needful students an eco-friendly, durable and trendy schoolbag.
