The Sarah Allen Missionary Society (SAMS) of Metropolitan AMEC has a Crochet Group that includes missionaries and members of the congregation who crochet. Our project this year is to make lap blankets for the members who are sick and shut-in at home and in facilities. We expect to distribute them during Easter week.
SAMS also participated in Handbags of Hope Across America. Their focus is to distribute handbags filled with personal items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, body wash, shampoo, hand sanitizer, and a gift card for women who are escaping domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Joan W. Oxendine, president of SAMS, will be an honoree at the Bowie State University National Alumni Association’s Annual Scholarship Gala on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 7 PM at Martins Crosswinds. Joan is a Bowie graduate, a former employee of Bowie State University and a published author. Her first book, Growing Up in the United States of America: A Nurse Encounters Starvation in the Uninsured, was published in July 2018. The book is available on Amazon, in paperback and on Kindle.
