Sis. Saundra joined Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, in Brandywine, Maryland, in 1978 and has been active ever since. She has been a member of the Women’s Missionary Society since 1980 where she served as Treasurer. She also served as Treasurer of the Celeste Duckette Area Women’s Missionary Society from 2013 to 2015. She was later elected Treasurer of the Washington Conference Branch Women’s Missionary Society in April 2015.

At Union Bethel Sis. Saundra was a member of the Steward Board, and served as the Financial Secretary.  She has also been a Board Member of Unity Economic Development Corporation and has served as a Tax Preparation Volunteer for their VITA program, both since 2012. Other activities in which she has been involved include the Voices of Union Bethel Choir, committee to establish the Commission on Stewardship and Finance, Sunday School, Steward Board, Unity Economic Development Corporation, Guiding Lights, Men’s Ministry Mentoring Program, and Noonday Bible Study. She assisted in setting up the current structure of Sunday School, and has served as Assistant Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Administrator, and Secretary/Treasurer (a position she both previously held and currently holds).

Sis. Saundra has served and held positions in other organizations and events including Judge at Science Fairs in Maryland and DC Public Schools, Co-chair of the Registration Committee for the OMIK Annual Electronic (Amateur Radio Club) Convention, Treasurer of the Potomac Palisades Chapter of Federally Employed Woman, and a member of the National Council of Negro Women. She has also been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated since 1966. She is a Charter Member and active in the Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter and has served as Financial Secretary, Treasurer, and Chair of the Audit Committee.

She was raised in Lincoln, Delaware and was educated in the Delaware Public School System. Sis. Saundra graduated Valedictorian from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. In May 1968, she graduated from Delaware State University in Dover with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.  Upon graduation, she moved to the Washington, DC area to begin working for the federal government in the Department of Defense, where she served for approximately 38 years. Positions that she held include mathematician, cartographer, computer specialist, and staff officer. Additionally, she served as a teacher for St. Cecilia Academy Adult Education Night School where she taught Mathematics in the GED program.

Sis. Saundra is married to Stanley Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have one daughter, Sonja. They reside in Waldorf, Maryland. In her down time, she loves to cook and bake. She is known for her pound cakes, peach cobbler, chocolate cakes, and coconut cakes.
