Sis. Cecelia Melvin-Scott is an active member at Turner Memorial AMEC in Hyattsville, Maryland. She served eight years as the 2nd Vice President of the Johanna Morris Women’s Missionary Society (JMWMS). In that capacity, she was the liaison for bereavement repasts and continued to represent JMWMS as the President of the Board of Directors for Community Crisis Services, Inc. (Warm Nights) until July 1, 2023. She has served as the YPD Director and Historiographer.

In 2004, Sis. Cecelia represented the Washington Conference Branch as the Dorcas Queen, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Sis. Cecelia also serves at Turner as a Class Leader, praising the Lord on the Mass Choir, a former Debutante Committee member, and a Henry McNeal Turner Scholarship Committee member. One of her favorite scriptures is Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

Her earliest memory of the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) is being in the company of her grandmother Mrs. Hattie P. Miller at meetings and conferences while her grandfather, Rev. Dr. Isaac John Miller, Jr. pastored at his last church, Mt. Moriah AMEC in Annapolis, MD. As a 4th generation Missionary, Sis. Cecelia was encouraged to serve God’s people and to uphold the heritage of the AME Church.  Her undying compassion for education and God’s word, continued in the Area Level by being the PME Director for the Celeste Duckette Area for three years.

Her nine years of experience serving as the WCB PME Director has prepared her for the exciting charge of serving on the Washington Conference Branch WMS in the position of 2nd Vice President. She was elected in May 2023 at the WCB WMS Annual Day. Sis. Cecelia’s vision is to provide a consistent and open opportunity for the members of the Conference to share information, solutions about how they can empower those in need, provide enhancing training, and support the members to be shinning beacons of light in God’s Kingdom.
