Dorothy Carolyn Lowe, Worship Director

Sister Dorothy Carolyn Lowe, known by most as “Carolyn,” joined Ebenezer AME Church in 1983 when it relocated from Georgetown to Fort Washington, MD.  The following year, she became a member of the Alice Marie Chapman Missionary Society.   In the Local Society, she was elected to the offices of Parliamentarian and Worship Director.  She has been a member of the WCB WMS Hazel A. Dyson Choir for more than 25 years.

Since 1983, Sis. Lowe has been active in music ministry, both in church services and in community outreach.  She is a member of the Ebenezer Chancel and Unity Choirs and is the Worship Director for Precious Gems, Alice Marie Chapman’s outreach ministry to the Clinton Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

Sis. Lowe retired from the position of Supervisory Investigator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after 38 years with the federal government, and immediately began another career as a volunteer community advocate.  Her activities include working closely with the Prince George’s County Police Department to foster good police/community relationships.  She does this work as a member of the District V and Police Chief’s Citizens Advisory Councils.  She also facilitates the District V Coffee Club, a weekly community forum for addressing issues of public safety, education, County services and any other matters of importance.   She is also the President of the Williamsburg Estates Citizens Association.

Sis. Lowe graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

She is the proud mother of a daughter, Cynthia Diane Lowe, and a son, Stephen W. C. Lowe, Jr. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34 which says, “I will bless the Lord at all times.  His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
