Second Episcopal District African Methodist Episcopal Church
"Expanding, elevating, and empowering, we are women called to discipleship."
Elizabeth Jordan Johnson, Corresponding Secretary
Sis. Elizabeth is an active member of Allen Chapel AME Church, where she has served as the President of the Della B. Greene (DBG) Missionary Society for the past three years. As a missionary, she is convinced that we need to step out and work in the community and in nursing homes to tell others about Jesus Christ. We need to set aside personal ambitions and answer the call to serve. She has led her society in fulfilling their mission in serving the less fortunate in making donations both at home and across the waters, feeding the homeless and numerous projects in outreach and giving their time as well as money.
She was also the 1st Vice President of the Missionary Society for two years. When the society worked in units, she served as the last President of the Greta Hicks Anthony Ensemble. She also served as the Assistant Recording Secretary for the Catherine C. Hemingway Area and was Co-Coordinator on the Commission for Social Action for the past three years. Sis. Elizabeth is the Co-Commissioner of the Debs and Masters Commission of Allen; an Usher on Usher Board #2; Wedding Coordinator; on the Griefshare Ministry; a member of One Accord Choir; and a member of the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee. She is also a member of the Seawright for Bishop Campaign.
Sis. Elizabeth was born in Roanoke, Virginia and accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. After moving to Washington, D.C., she began attending Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church for many years before becoming a dedicated and devoted member.
As a leader, she serves not to be blessed, but to be a blessing! The world tells us that as a leader, we are to be served. But the Word tells us that as a leader, we serve! The world tells us that the number of persons that are required to serve you determines strength. But the Word tells us that true strength lies in the number of persons that you are able to serve! There is strength in performing kindly or benevolent acts! An act of benevolence speaks more to your worth than the meetings you schedule or the title you carry!
She was a loyal Federal Bureau of Investigation employee with forty years of dedicated service before her retirement. She is married to Minister Avery Johnson, who is the Vice Chair, Pro Tem and on the Ministerial Staff at Allen and an Associate member of DBG.
Her favorite scripture comes from Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.”
