“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 10 (NIV)
The Georgianna Stewart Women’s Missionary Society (GSWMS) of Embry AME Church was blessed to host two beautiful, love-filled outreach projects this summer.
We held our 3rd Annual Walk/Run/Bike for Literacy. Short Walk. Long Walk. Run. Ride your bike. We covered all bases for the participant’s level of comfort. And did we have loads of fun! And when we returned from our exercise, some of us had enough fire left over to put our “Boots on the Ground” along with a few other line dances. Exercise is Good for the Body, Mind, and Soul!! Children’s Books were collected and donated to Paint Branch Elementary School, our Adopted School, which is one block from Embry. Our hearts are on fire to stress the importance of children being able to read, write, speak, and listen in today’s world.
Since the GSWMS loves celebrating and recognizing the seasoned members of our church, community, and family/friends, we held our 3rd Annual Senior Social on July 31, 2025. It was a labor of love. The face-to-face time together was awesome. Presentations from the Legal Aid Society and two Maryland State Delegates were very informative. Guests walked away with a better understanding of their legal rights and that “Big Beautiful Bill” and its impact on the citizens of the DMV. Seniors played games, joked, created Succulent Air Plant Gardens, were served good food, listened to Oldies but Goodies, and just enjoyed a good old-fashioned fellowship. Seniors were most appreciative to walk away with household products and numerous donated items from Heartland Hospice, Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation, and the City of College Park.
“Whoever brings blessings will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” Proverbs 11:25 (ESV)
