Union Bethel AME, Brandywine - Reaching Out with Neighborly Love
By Sis. Oveta Watkins
On December 17, 2022, the Elsie I. Ford Women's Missionary Society of Union Bethel (UB) AME Church, Brandywine, MD, under the leadership of Sis. Oveta Watkins, Missionary President, and Rev. Dr. William M. Campbell, Jr., Senior Pastor, partnered with the Community Mission Team of the church, Bro. George Ingram, Associate and Group Leader, to reach out to assist citizens in Nanjemoy. Nanjemoy is a settlement along Route 6 in South West Charles County. It is a rural area that has a population of approximately 3,017 and is bordered by the Nanjemoy Creek and the Potomac River.
UB loaded 100 boxes of food (meat, fresh produce, fruit, bread and non-perishable items), clothing, school supplies, toys and other articles on the church bus and left early to go to the host church, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where members were anxiously awaiting to assist in the set-up. The missionaries joined in a community fellowship and giveaway event that was appreciated and enjoyed by the more than 100 persons who attended. Distribution was made to the waiting citizens in less than one hour of the two hours allotted for the event. Another giveaway, held on February 11, 2023, with the same amount of food/articles, was again welcomed and appreciated by all. To God be the Glory!
